The ESDN was founded in October 2008 in an attempt to bring practitioners and academics, alongside policy makers in sports development closer together through a collaborative network of individuals and institutions. The ESDN is linked to the PE and Sports Development (PESD) research unit at Nottingham Trent University, England.
It has the following goals:
- to encourage collaboration and partnerships in sports development 'practice' in Europe and beyond;
- to share theoretical and conceptual developments in sports development;
- to set up and plan symposiums, seminars and events to share discourse, debate and to challenge the traditional boundaries of the field;
- to develop longer term, sustainable network of members in the field of sports development.
The inaugural ESDN symposium is to take place on 3-4th September at Nottingham Trent University's City Campus Bass Management Centre. 21 Speakers have been confirmed including academics and practitioners in sports development from countries including Japan, Finland, Greece, Iran, Germany and the UK. Places are limited to 55 in total and further information can be obtained from symposium organiser christopher.mackintosh@ntu.ac.uk .
